4.6 Calculation of travelling time reduction

4.6.1 Speed limits

Speed limits are shown in table 4.6-1 and figure 4.6-1. The section between Ban Dan and Chiang Mai is a mountainous area with steep gradient and many sharp curves. When speed limited rections are closely located, a deceleration distance and an acceleration distance are necessary for deceleration and acceleration respectively. Therefore, when considering that a train enters an acceleration section before completely decelerated or enters the next limit section before completely accelerated, it is necessary to rationally unify limit sections. By considering these reasons, the speed limit table 4.6-1 and speed limit diagram (figure 4.6-1) are prepared on the basis of the maximum speeds adapted to a train of high-performance body tilting cars (4.5) and of the values in the Future column of Curve Data: B.E. 2534 and Curve Data in Lumpang Den. (SRT).

For the stations currently specified of station passing speed limits, the current speed limits are adopted.

4.6.2 Speedup

(1) Prerequisites

1) Stop stations

The following nine stations are supposed as stop stations between Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

Ban Sue, Don Maung, Ban Phachi, Lop Buri, Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok, Uttaradit, Den Chai, and Nakhon Lampang

2) Others

The normal brake deceleration is set to 2 km/H/sec independently of rolling-stock performance by considering the riding comfortableness.
